Toxteth BME Community Project

Introducing AI to a Community Network Project, Liverpool

Appreciating People worked with the Toxteth BME community project in 2007, following a commission from Liverpool Culture Company’s Creative Communities team. AP made contact with different BME (British Minority Ethnic) in Liverpool’s Toxteth neighbourhood over a three-month period, using Appreciative Inquiry as an approach to foster collaborative working and a shared future by:

  • Establishing links of communication
  • Encouraging groups to share their resources
  • Forming a network for regular meetings and future planning

Concerns had been raised about groups competing for limited resources, as well as project and service duplication, framing the requirements for the project. It was so successful that the format was developed for the day-long Big Conversation, that took place in December 2008.
